Over the past few years, I have noticed that men and women are increasingly choosing less invasive and non-invasive procedures that involve minimal downtime and less self-care after the treatment. By now, you all probably know about dermal fillers and Botulinum toxin the two most popular skin rejuvenation treatments at my practice. Injectables are ideal for men and women who want to improve small, very specific and targeted areas of their face rather than to undergo a full rejuvenation of the entire face.
But for those of you who are looking for an overall tightening and rejuvenation of your facial contours, I strongly suggest The PDO Thread Lift. It is the latest and revolutionary treatment for skin tightening and lifting and gives the face a more contoured and sculpted V-shape.
The name may sound a little scary but do not worry: the threads used in this procedure are absorbable ones, made of PDO (polydioxanone) material which is similar to the threads used in surgical stitches. This means that they are completely safe to use and do not cause any damage to the tissue.
The PDO thread lift is ideal for men or women who want to reverse the signs of ageing but do not want to undergo a surgical facelift. Many patients tell me that they are noticing some sagging here and there, deep creases, folds and wrinkles. This is because as we age, the collagen and the elastin fibres break down and need some extra help! Lifted contouring of the face along with a much tighter, more youthful complexion can be achieved instantly by collagen that resides in the deeper layer of our skin.
The threads provide a natural and youthful appearance of the skin and keep the wrinkles at bay for a long time.
How The PDO Thread Lift Procedure Works
Because it only takes me between 30 minutes and an hour to perform (depending on the treatment area), the PDO thread lift remains a lunch time procedure! Beforehand, I apply and or inject an anaesthetic cream to the areas you want to treat and I then insert the safe and dissolvable threads underneath your skin. I implant the threads into the sub-dermal skin and stimulate the production of collagen and the skin becomes firmer, smoother, more supple and moisturised.
The concept behind the PDO thread lift is that it continuously stimulates collagen synthesis under the skin. When inserted into the skin, it acts as a “scaffold” for the skin and helps it fight against the effects of gravity. This webbing of threads also beautifully shapes the face by lifting and supporting the sagging structures.
To sum it all up, with the thread lift I can:
- Increase the collagen synthesis
- Tighten and rejuvenate the skin
- Improve the skin tone and structure
- Sculpt sharper features and V-shape contours thus restoring the triangle of beauty.
Is The Treatment Painful?
As I mentioned earlier, I always try and manage discomfort as much as I can by applying numbing creams before beginning the procedure and this does dramatically reduce the pain of the injections. My patients do not usually report this procedure as being an extremely painful one but they do mention a very slight discomfort. Fortunately, there is no downtime required and you can resume your activities almost immediately after the procedure.
What to Expect After a PDO Thread Lift Procedure
Amongst the PDO thread lift procedure’s strong points, the speedy recovery and the immediate results are what patients love most.
After the procedure, mild swelling is common and will subside after a few days but you will already be able to see the results straight after.
How Long Will The Results Last?
Usually it will need only one-time procedure to achieve your desired lifting effect. The threads are absorbable and therefore will be reabsorbed in 4-6 months’ time leaving nothing behind but the skin structure created which continues to hold for one to three years. However, you will need an annual touch up in order to maintain a smooth a wrinkle-free face with Botox or fillers.
If you are unsure about the PDO thread lift, remember that at MediSculpt we also offer the Liquid Facelift and the 3D Vector face lift which combines dermal fillers and Botulinum Toxin injections for instantly younger and smoother looking features.
