THE HORMONE DHT CAUSES BREAKOUTS AND PROBLEM SKIN

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) causes the sebaceous glands to produce excessive levels of sebum (oil) in the skin and when mixed with other cellular debris, this results in clogged pores.

P.acnes is a bacteria which lives deep within follicles and pores, using sebum and cellular debris (dead skin cells) as nutrients to grow and multiply. Although these microorganisms help to keep the skin clean to a certain extent, when there is an abundance of oil this causes a rapid increase in the number of P. acnes.

The bacteria release high levels of proteins and digestive enzymes causing cellular damage. This may trigger inflammation (red spots) and if left untreated, the inflammation could lead to skin disorders such as Folliculitis and Acne Vulgaris.

Unhealthy follicles and pores are prone to invasion by opportunistic bacteria such as Staphylococcus Aureus, which is often visible as pustules (pimples) and other eruptions on the skin.
