If you have young children around you and you are a skincare lover, like me, you will always notice how plump and gorgeous their skin is, bouncing with youth and energy, a reflection of their exuberant existence. With ageing skin, the universal dilemma is that it lacks lustre, can frequently look dull and its dryness aids and abets the sign of time marching on.
However, you needn’t succumb to this state of affairs. And yes, this is a pep talk. To be more specific, I have been delving into the world of peptides and I am really pleased with the outcome.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They often act as hormones, so represent biologic messengers carrying information from one tissue to another. Remember that amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, like collagen and elastin, which we need for beautiful skin. Just as an aside, to take a break from the biology lesson, the word PEP is associated with energy and high spirits, being full of life.
That being said, I have been testing two products from the Dermaquest Peptide Vitality Collection: the Peptide Line Corrector and the Nourishing Peptide cream.
Dermaquest is a medical-grade skincare brand that offers solutions and effective results for different skin issues.
Dermaquest Peptide Line Corrector
R2995.00
A light, gel-serum which contains 13 peptides working hard to increase collagen production, even out your skin tone and reduce any inflammation. A sleek cylinder with a pump delivery system, it is easy to use, spreads in seconds and definitely doubles up as an effective eye serum – especially if you are skipping the botulinum toxin injections for a while. This is a great product, especially if you want instant gratification and no buyer’s remorse (it’s hella pricey, but oh so worth it).
Dermaquest Nourishing Peptide Cream
R1650.00
A lightweight moisturizer for normal to dry skin with anti-ageing plant extracts as well as our friends, the peptides, encouraging collagen production, helping to plump out fine lines and all-in-all, a hard worker for mature skin. What I like about this cream is that it keeps my skin looking moist and radiant all day – a long-lasting glow, which is precisely what ageing skin needs. It comes in a tube which is great for travelling and it’s a generous 60mls, which should last a long time.
A note on the expense: yes, Dermaquest is a pricey range, but it’s incredibly effective as the ingredients are of the highest quality and the formulas are backed by science. That’s what you are investing in.
Remember, you don’t have to slather them on in copious quantities: a little goes a long way. Cruelty-free and safe for all skins.
