For nearly five decades, Biologique Recherche has embodied the art and science of skin transformation, combining biology, precision, and luxury. True to the brand’s founding philosophy of working with the skin rather than against it, the French maison’s latest innovation redefines how oxygen supports healthy, radiant skin.
The new-generation VIP O₂ range marks a major scientific and sensorial evolution. Originally launched in 1998 to help counter the dulling effects of pollution and stress on the complexion, the range has now been entirely reformulated, unveiling a patented complex that optimises oxygen metabolism where it matters most – inside the skin’s cells.
The science of cellular oxygenation
While many treatments focus on adding oxygen to the skin’s surface, Biologique Recherche takes a smarter, physiological approach: it helps the skin make better use of the oxygen it already has.
At the heart of this breakthrough is melatonin, a naturally occurring molecule within the body known for its antioxidant and regulatory properties. Biologique Recherche’s R&D team discovered that melatonin also enhances oxygen uptake in the mitochondria – the skin’s “powerhouses” responsible for converting oxygen into energy (ATP).
The new patented VIP O₂complex combines vectorised melatonin with two synergistic cofactors that boost ATP synthesis. This means skin can perform its natural functions – repair, renewal, and protection – more efficiently. The result is restored vitality, hydration, and radiance without inducing oxidative stress.
“Rather than bypassing nature, our goal was to reactivate it,” explains Dr Hélène Huguet, VP of Research & Development at Biologique Recherche. “We created a complex that restores mitochondrial respiration where it weakens, helping the skin rediscover its natural rhythm and glow.”
The VIP O₂ ritual: From cleansing to cellular renewal
