Dr Dagmar Whitaker was born in Germany and completed her pre-grad training in Frankfurt, Germany. She has been in South Africa since 1986, specialising in dermatology at Stellenbosch University, Tygerberg Hospital, and has been in private practice since 1994. Most notably, Dr Whitaker is the president of the Melanoma Society South Africa, vice president of the World Melanoma Society, and past president of the Dermatological Society South Africa.
