MBBCH(Wits) FCDerm (SA) MMed Derm, Dermatologist Dr Hartshorne is the resident Dermatologist at Mediderm in Plettenberg Bay. Tending to all skin-related needs such as skin cancer treatment and prevention, eczema and acne treatment, and mole scans. Dr Hartshorne is also the current president of the SASDS (South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery) , a board member of the DSSA (Dermatology Society of South Africa) and AWDS (African Women’s Dermatology Society). Dr Hartshorne graduated in 1990 in Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 1998 she completed her specialisation in dermatology achieving both an FC Derm and a MMed in dermatology. Her masters thesis involved reviewing over 7000 patients at five academic hospitals in the Johannesburg area and surveying the dermatological disorders according to race and age. She has published and presented several original research articles which included research in the genetic dermatological disorders Keratolytic Winter Erythema and Familial Lichen Amyloidosis for which she was awarded best registrar presentation and best scientific presentation. She also has served on the South African Dermatology Congress Organising Committee for the past 8 years. She serves as an honorary dermatology consultant for the Eden district of the Western Cape and has started a dermatology training service in the district for all registrars and doctors in the Eden district.
