What did I review?
A Milk peel on my hands using Dermaceutic products. There was an option of a Cosmo peel (a more intense peel) but I opted for the Milk one.
Where was it?
At Sonette Donker’s aesthetic salon: SkinID – situated in the Manor Medical Centre, 189 Kelvin Drive, Morningside Manor, Sandton. You can call or email her on www.skinid.co.za | +27 (0) 83 250 5111 | sonette@skinid.co.za. Sonette specialises in skin, and chemical peels for the face, body and hands.
How does it feel on the skin?
No pain at all. A rather mild tingle… nothing unusual for a superficial peel.
How long did it take?
30mins including a consultation with Sonette to assess which peel would suit me and my lifestyle better, plus taking a closer look at the skin on my hands to see what my problem areas were. I had some dryness and sun spots that I wanted to address.
The first few mins we had our skin assessment. Sonette then cleanses and preps the skin. The peel is only on for 10mins, followed by peel removal, moisturiser and sunscreen application.
Was there downtime?
No, not with a Milk Peel. You would however experience some “downtime” from a Cosmo Peel (a more intense peel) in terms of skin flaking on your hands for five to 10 days.
My skin only felt a little dry for a few days, but improved with extra moisturiser. My texture improved and after a week my skin felt more hydrated and glowy. I only had one treatment, but I’d see better results with a second, third and fourth treatment.
When do you see results?
With a Milk peel you can expect to see results after two to four treatments. After a Cosmo peel you can expect to see results after one treatment.
Who is it for?
Men and women in their 20’s to 60’s to maintain youthful looking hands and looking to treat pigmentation, sun spots, wrinkled skin, irregular texture and dull grey and dry skin. It’s also a nice-to-have treatment before an event.
What does it cost?
A Milk peel on the hands could cost from R680 per treatment (as at 2017). You’d need two to four treatments spaced three weeks apart. Alternatively, you can have one Cosmo Peel (a more intense peel) one to three times a year instead (price available from Sonette).
Where can you get it?

Anything else you should know?
- After any chemical peel, it’s important to wear sunscreen on the area. Your skin is sensitive post-peel and has a higher chance of pigmentation without adequate protection.
- Peels are best done in winter.
