At Dermaquest, we strive to provide each physician and therapist with safe and effective tools to meet and exceed their client’s specific skincare goals.
Each professional peel treatment begins by completing a thorough consultation and mapping out the patient’s personalized treatment plan. This is called The Client Journey; a plan developed by the practitioner to help each patient reach their ultimate skin care goals.
This plan not only includes the progression through professional treatments to address specific skin conditions but the pre and post-care required to ensure the best outcome, which involves prepping the skin with adequate hydration and reducing pigment activity in the skin. Post care treatment ranges from using the correct homecare to more stringent post-peel protocols.
Where to start?
The best place would be to familiarize yourself with the diverse range of Dermaquest peels and how they benefit specific skin types and conditions. This is key to successful planning, prepping and execution of any Dermaquest peeling treatment which range from lighter Level I resurfacers to the more intense deeper Level III protocols.
Let the protocols guide you to success by following them completely and they will deliver long-lasting transformative results.
Prepping The Skin (2-4 weeks before treatment)
The key to successful treatments is to be sure the client has properly prepped their skin. We recommend the following skin prep schedule:
- For Fitzpatrick Skin Types 1-3 (less pigmented skins): Hydration (Essential B5 Hydrating Serum) and melanocyte suppression used every day (SkinBrite Cream), morning and night for 2 weeks
- For Fitzpatrick Skin Types 4-6 (less pigmented skins): Hydration (Essential B5 Hydrating Serum) and melanocyte suppression used every day (SkinBrite Cream), morning and night for 4 weeks.
It is especially important for more pigmented skins to strictly adhere to this plan to avoid PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation), which can be exceedingly difficult to correct.
The Levels
For ease of use, all Dermaquest protocols have been divided into 4 categories:
Level I – Resurfacers
These are 30-minute lighter peeling treatments and are the first of the advanced exfoliation levels that involve using AHA’s, BHA’s and enzymes to speed cellular turnover and improve skin’s overall appearance.
One of our crowd-pleasing PRO facial masks may be added to this step post Resurfacer to enhance the overall benefits, or this treatment can be used as a 30 minute “Lunch-Time Peel”. These treatments can be performed every 3-5 weeks or in series of 6 and include the following:
- MangoBrite: sun damage, pigmentation
- Power Pumpkin: Acne, PIH and scarring
- Lactic Acid: treatment of sensitive skin conditions and hydration
- Power Peptide: anti-ageing powerhouse
Level II – Gentle “No Downtime” Peels
The Level I treatments incorporate a lower pH and increased exfoliation with the addition of a 4% Retinol Serum. These treatments act as a bridge between resurfacing treatments and true chemical peels to help acclimatize – or progress skin through treatment levels gradually.
Level II peels can create some light-medium flaking of the skin 48-72 hours post-treatment but are not designed to produce sheets of peeling skin. This treatment can be performed every 3-5 weeks or in series of 3.
Level III – Chemical Peels
Advanced, chemical peeling treatments with unique blends setting the Dermaquest peel collection apart; they penetrate deep into the layers of skin and requires 7-10 days of downtime (or, recovery). This process creates a “controlled wound”- which initiates the skins healing process, increasing cell function and turnover while activating collagen and elastin production in the skin.
These treatments can be performed as a one-time treatment or in series of 3 in the Winter months and consist of the following:
- TCA (7% and 2 % Salicylic Acid)
- Modified Jessner
- SkinBrite Peel
- Hibiscus Flower Mandelic Acid
Level IV – Advanced Combination Peels
Next-generation peeling by using a combination of peels for increased exfoliation and unsurpassed results which can be performed as a one-time treatment or in series of 3.
Option 1: Applying a Resurfacer followed by applying passes of a Level III chemical peel.
Option 2: Layering multiple Level III chemical peels
These combinations offer the ability to create and customize the ultimate in results-oriented treatments to address client’s concerns and reach their skincare goals.
*Please Note: Not all clients will progress through all 5 levels, each client’s plan is personalized based on skincare goals, skin condition and the client’s level of commitment.
Amplify!
To enhance or amplify the results of each level would be to follow treatments with our potent brightening treatment, SkinBrite Solution; formulated with madonna lily plant stem cells, 10% azelaic and 3% kojic acids, this gentle degreaser is ideal for all resurfacers and chemical peels that require melanin suppression. SkinBrite Solution can also be used as a leave-on treatment for hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. This gentle prepping solution is safe for sensitive skin as it helps to prevent UV damage.
Post Care
Post care for Levels 3-5 consists of leaving skin cool and dry for at least 6, up to 24 hours to allow the top layers of skin to coagulate and, eventually, flake or peel. As skin peels, it is key that only a gentle cleanser, simple hydration and sunscreen are used until all peeling is complete. No rolling or pulling flaking skin to avoid damaging the healing skin beneath.
Post Treatment Balm is specifically formulated to soothe and nurture inflammation by accelerating the healing process, it instantly reduces swelling and itching while protecting the compromised area. Best for: recommended for all skin types in need of occlusion and protection before, during and after any chemical peel treatment.
