As aesthetic medicine continues to evolve, the focus is increasingly shifting beyond simply treating wrinkles to improving overall skin quality, including hydration, radiance, firmness and texture. Among the brands helping to shape this category is Fillmed Laboratoires, whose skin-boosting injectable range is manufactured in France and distributed in South Africa by GA Active Wholesalers. This article explores the philosophy behind Fillmed’s approach to skin revitalisation and examines the published research investigating how these treatments may support healthier-looking skin over time.
When patients think about aesthetic treatments, they often focus on wrinkles. Yet many practitioners would argue that skin quality is just as important.
Hydration, radiance, firmness, texture and overall skin health all contribute to the way skin looks and ages. Long before the term “skin quality” became widely used within aesthetic medicine, Fillmed Laboratoires was exploring how these different elements could be supported through skin revitalisation treatments.
Today, the French company remains one of the best-known names in this category, with a portfolio of products designed to improve hydration, support skin health and address visible signs of ageing.
A different approach to skin ageing
Traditional aesthetic treatments often focus on correcting specific concerns, such as wrinkles or volume loss. Skin revitalisation takes a broader approach.
The philosophy is based on supporting the skin’s natural environment through the use of hyaluronic acid combined with ingredients such as vitamins, amino acids, minerals, coenzymes and nucleic acids.
These ingredients are naturally involved in many of the biological processes that help maintain healthy-looking skin.
According to Fillmed, the goal is not simply to target individual lines or folds, but to improve the overall quality and appearance of the skin.

The science behind the concept
A published review in the Journal of Cosmetics, Dermatological Sciences and Applications brought together ten years of laboratory, ex vivo and clinical research on one of Fillmed’s skin revitalisation formulations.
Researchers investigated multiple aspects of skin ageing and skin quality, including collagen production, hydration, firmness, radiance, pore appearance and wrinkle formation.
One of the laboratory findings was a significant increase in collagen production when fibroblast cells were exposed to the formulation. Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for producing collagen, one of the key structural proteins that help keep skin firm and resilient.
The research also demonstrated increased cellular activity and improvements in factors associated with skin ageing.
From the laboratory to real-world skin
The review included studies performed on living skin models, as well as clinical studies involving women with visible signs of skin ageing.
Researchers reported improvements across several measures commonly associated with healthy-looking skin.
Hydration and radiance
Hydration was one of the earliest improvements observed during treatment programmes. Participants also experienced progressive improvements in skin radiance and overall complexion.
For many patients, these are among the first changes they notice, with skin appearing fresher, smoother and more luminous.
Firmer-looking skin
The studies also reported improvements in skin firmness and tonicity.
As collagen production naturally declines with age, skin can begin to lose some of its structural support. Treatments that focus on skin quality aim to address this aspect of ageing by supporting the skin’s underlying environment.
Pore appearance and texture
Researchers observed reductions in visible pore size, along with improvements in overall skin texture and homogeneity.
These changes contribute to a smoother and more refined appearance, which is often difficult to achieve through topical skincare alone.
Improvements in wrinkle appearance
The clinical studies also demonstrated reductions in wrinkle depth, wrinkle volume and overall wrinkle severity following a series of treatment sessions.
Importantly, these improvements were gradual, supporting the concept that skin revitalisation focuses on progressive enhancement of skin quality rather than immediate transformation.

Key Findings from the Research at a Glance
---
Published research reviewed laboratory, ex vivo and clinical studies spanning ten years on a Fillmed skin revitalisation formulation.
Collagen production: Increased by 132% in laboratory fibroblast studies at one concentration and 115% at another, suggesting enhanced collagen synthesis. Wrinkle severity: Reduced by approximately 50% after five treatment sessions in the multicentre clinical study. Skin hydration: Clinical hydration scores improved by approximately 130% over the treatment programme. Skin radiance: Clinical radiance scores also improved by approximately 130% following treatment. Skin firmness (tonicity): Improved by approximately 110% during the study period. Wrinkle depth: Instrumental analysis demonstrated a 43.3% reduction after five treatment sessions. Dermal thickness and density: Ultrasound measurements showed significant increases from the third treatment session onwards, with continued improvement throughout the study. Pore appearance: Visible pore size decreased significantly after the second treatment session and continued improving over four months. Skin homogeneity: Researchers also reported significant improvements in overall skin tone uniformity from as early as the second treatment session.
Why skin quality matters
The aesthetic industry has increasingly shifted towards natural-looking outcomes.
Many patients are no longer looking for dramatic changes. Instead, they want healthy-looking skin that reflects how they feel.
Skin quality has therefore become an important treatment objective for practitioners worldwide. Improvements in hydration, texture, radiance and firmness can often enhance overall appearance without altering facial features.
A legacy of innovation
Fillmed Laboratoires has been involved in aesthetic medicine for decades and continues to invest in research exploring the relationship between skin biology and visible ageing.
The publication reviewing ten years of research provides insight into the scientific foundation behind the company’s skin revitalisation approach and highlights the growing interest in treatments that focus on supporting skin health from within.
For patients, this means access to treatments designed to improve the overall appearance and quality of the skin. For practitioners, it offers a body of published research supporting a category that has become an important part of modern aesthetic medicine.

The bottom line
Healthy-looking skin is influenced by far more than wrinkles alone. Hydration, collagen production, firmness, radiance and texture all play a role in how skin ages and how it is perceived.
Fillmed’s skin revitalisation philosophy reflects this broader understanding of skin health. Supported by a decade of published research, the company’s products continue to form part of the conversation around skin quality, helping practitioners and patients focus not only on correcting the signs of ageing, but also on supporting the skin itself.
