Well, we haven’t had much of a summer, with all the rain, but let’s rather talk skin and the fact that there haven’t been many UVA rays to do their usual summer damage. Notwithstanding, I am a staunch believer in removing dead skin cells regularly in order to achieve that ‘Glow’ that all good skin features. Young skin does this perfectly, on its own, with no help from any product whatsoever.
The older you get, sadly, the skin gets tired of renovating itself and you sort of have to help it along. In the past, exfoliators had coarse grains that helped to physically remove dead skin cells when you applied the product in circular motions – some being far too harsh, causing irritation. If you are too enthusiastic about the rubbing, you might do yourself some harm!
Enter one of my favourite medical skincare brands, NeoStrata (I have been a regular user of the Skin Actives range ever since I turned 50). I was kindly gifted the new NeoStrata Glycolic Microdermabrasion Polish – so after the holidays, I tried it on my mature, normal skin. This is a dual physical and chemical exfoliating treatment, but never fear, there are no large abrasive grains to worry about – the texture is very fine.

The important ingredient is Glycolic Acid which is incredibly effective in cell turnover, as well as collagen and elastin production. This benefits the skin immensely.
In addition, Lactobionic Acid plumps and firms and your skin will be left radiant and smooth. One thing to remember when you are exfoliating is to use your sunscreen religiously. If you have mature skin, do make this a regular treatment, as the expensive serum that you are using will penetrate so much more efficiently if your skin is well prepared. A lovely product to add to your regimen – but not those with sensitive skins.
The NeoStrata Overnight Anti-Pollution Treatment is also a great gel cream to use if you have been outdoors on holiday and your skin has been exposed to wind, sun and sea. It’s a lovely skin recovery treatment to use at bedtime (and I used it after exfoliating).

It has powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients like Lilac Plant Cell Extract, giving it a soothing, serene scent which I found very gentle and relaxing. Remember that sleep is a great restorer and enhancing your beauty sleep with a treatment that aids in minimizing the visible damage of daily pollution is really a good idea. Skin texture will be refined and refreshed.
Beautiful products from a beautiful brand – it never fails to deliver.
