What is oxidation?

Oxidation is a chemical process that creates free radicals, including ROS (reactive oxygen species). Free radicals are highly reactive and unstable molecules that damage skin cells (this is the phenomenon of oxidative stress). Damage to the cell and DNA accumulates, and cellular ageing accelerates, leading to deterioration in skin quality.

How do antioxidants work?

Antioxidants are molecules that inhibit the oxidation of other molecules (the formation of free radicals). They are also able to neutralise these free radicals, preventing their attachment to the cells and thus fighting against cellular damage.
