There is something rather lovely about escaping the rush of everyday life and heading to a treatment room tucked away in the peaceful surroundings of the Noordhoek Garden Emporium. That was exactly my experience at Silk Aesthetics Studio, where founder and therapist Perach combines a warm, personal approach with advanced skin technologies.
For this review, two treatments were combined in a single session: Sciton’s BBL HERO (BroadBand Light High Energy Rapid Output) and PRX Plus. While each treatment can deliver impressive results on its own, they work in different ways and can complement one another when used together as part of a personalised treatment plan.
What is BBL HERO?
BBL HERO is an advanced light-based treatment that targets a wide range of common skin concerns. Unlike traditional IPL systems, BBL HERO offers faster treatment times and can be used on both the face and body.
It is commonly used to address:
- Sun damage
- Freckles and age spots
- General pigmentation
- Rosacea and facial redness
- Small visible blood vessels
- Active acne
- Uneven skin texture
- Mild skin laxity
One of its biggest advantages is speed. Larger treatment areas such as the back, chest, arms or legs can often be treated within minutes. The treatment also stimulates collagen production, helping to improve overall skin quality and support a smoother, more refreshed appearance over time.
Because it can target multiple concerns within a single session, BBL HERO is often referred to as a “photo-facial” treatment and is sometimes described as the Swiss Army knife of aesthetic skin treatments.
What is PRX Plus?
PRX Plus is a needle-free biorevitalisation treatment that aims to improve skin quality without the significant peeling or downtime associated with traditional chemical peels.
The treatment is designed to:
- Improve skin firmness and elasticity
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Address uneven pigmentation
- Improve skin texture
- Minimise the appearance of enlarged pores
- Support the appearance of acne scars
- Enhance hydration and radiance
One of the reasons PRX Plus has become popular is that it works deeper within the skin while causing minimal disruption to the surface. This allows many patients to return to normal activities shortly after treatment.
It is suitable for all Fitzpatrick skin types and can be used on the face, neck and décolletage.
The treatment experience
Perach was welcoming, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about helping her patients achieve healthy skin.
The BBL HERO treatment itself was surprisingly quick and comfortable. After protective eyewear was fitted, a series of flashes of light were delivered across the treatment area. The sensation was very manageable and far more comfortable than many people might expect from a light-based procedure.
The PRX Plus treatment followed immediately afterwards. The product is massaged into the skin in several layers, and this was probably the most relaxing part of the entire experience. Unlike a traditional peel, there was no significant discomfort. Towards the end, there was a slight tingling or “spicy” sensation, but it was extremely mild and would rate around a one out of ten on the discomfort scale.
Recovery and results
Immediately after the treatment, my skin was slightly red and blotchy, which is entirely normal. By later that afternoon, the redness had settled considerably.
My skin felt noticeably tighter, and one of the first visible improvements was that the pores appeared smaller. Despite the sensation of tightness, there was no downtime, and normal daily activities resumed immediately.
The recommended home care routine was straightforward. The PRX aftercare cream was applied morning and evening, alongside a gentle cleanser and sunscreen during the day.
The most noticeable result was the glow. My skin looked brighter and more radiant almost immediately after treatment.
From approximately day two to day seven, there was some very mild flaking. It was subtle enough that most people would not have noticed it, and it never felt disruptive. As the flaking resolved, my skin was smoother, fresher and more luminous.
Final thoughts
The combination of BBL HERO and PRX Plus offers an interesting approach for patients looking to address multiple skin concerns simultaneously. While BBL HERO targets pigmentation, redness, acne and overall skin quality through advanced light technology, PRX Plus focuses on collagen stimulation, hydration and skin renewal without significant downtime.
The treatment itself was comfortable, quick and easy to fit into a busy schedule. The post-treatment glow was noticeable almost immediately, while the gradual improvement in skin texture and radiance continued over the following days.
For those seeking a refreshed complexion, improved skin quality and minimal downtime, this treatment combination is certainly worth discussing with a qualified therapist.
