At Aesthetic Appointment Journal, products are tested in the real world, not just admired from a website. As a 41-year-old woman balancing work, motherhood, gym sessions, deadlines, stress, and South African sunshine, I recently put the Twenty4 Skin essentials range to the test.

Founded by aesthetic doctor Dr Juanri Jonck and registered somatologist Bernadette Kruger, Twenty4 Skin is a South African skincare brand built around hormonal skin science, barrier health, and evidence-based ingredients. The philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: support the skin’s natural functions while using proven active ingredients that address common concerns such as ageing, pigmentation, dullness, dehydration, and uneven texture.
Rather than launching dozens of products that leave consumers wondering where to start, Twenty4 Skin focuses on a simple morning-to-evening routine consisting of a cleanser, treatment serums, and daily sun protection.

The science behind the range
One of the points Dr Jonck frequently makes in practice is that while moisturisers are excellent for comfort and reducing water loss, serums are often where the real work happens.
Serums are designed with a lighter structure and higher concentration of active ingredients, allowing them to penetrate the skin more effectively. Ingredients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, retinol, niacinamide and alpha lipoic acid are selected not simply to sit on the surface, but to support the skin’s natural repair processes, collagen production and barrier function.
As Dr Jonck explains, the goal is not to create “comfortable but lazy skin” that relies entirely on heavy products, but rather to encourage the skin to function optimally on its own.
With that in mind, I tested the core Twenty4 Skin essentials range.
Step 1: Twenty4 Glycolic Acid Face Wash
Price: R360 (150ml)
Shop here: https://twenty4skin.co.za/product/twenty-4-face-wash/
The first thing I noticed about this cleanser was that it actually feels like a cleanser rather than a stripping detergent disguised as skincare.
The formulation contains glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) known for helping to dissolve dead skin cells and improve skin texture. Despite containing an active exfoliating ingredient, it felt gentle and comfortable on my skin.
The texture is light and easy to use, creating a clean feeling without that tight, squeaky sensation that often leaves mature skin feeling dehydrated.
For someone in their forties, maintaining smooth skin texture without irritating the barrier becomes increasingly important, and this cleanser struck a good balance between exfoliation and comfort.
Step 2: Twenty4 Vitamin C & E Day Serum
Price: R845 (30ml)
Shop here: https://twenty4skin.co.za/product/twenty-4-day-serum/
This became my favourite product in the range.
The serum has a lightweight consistency that absorbs quickly and layers beautifully under moisturiser and sunscreen. There was no pilling, stickiness or heavy residue.
The formulation combines Vitamin C and Vitamin E, both well-established antioxidants that help defend the skin against daily environmental stressors while supporting collagen production and brightness.
At this age, I am far less interested in chasing perfection than I am in maintaining healthy-looking skin with a natural glow. This serum gave my skin a fresher, more awake appearance without feeling heavy or greasy.
It’s the type of product that quietly does its job in the background rather than making dramatic promises.
Step 3: Twenty4 SPF 50 Sunscreen
Price: R510 (75ml)
Shop here: https://twenty4skin.co.za/product/twenty-4-spf-50/
If there is one skincare message worth repeating until everyone is tired of hearing it, it’s this: sunscreen remains the most important anti-ageing product in any routine.
The Twenty4 SPF 50 sunscreen is lightweight, easy to apply, and comfortable enough to wear daily. Importantly, it sits well under makeup and does not leave a heavy or greasy finish.
Many sunscreens aim to be cosmetically elegant but still feel like you’re wearing a layer of cling wrap. This one remained comfortable throughout the day.
For South Africans living under intense UV exposure, daily SPF isn’t optional. No serum, treatment or expensive procedure can consistently outperform ongoing sun damage.
This SPF is broad-spectrum, UVA, UVB, HEV (High Energy Visible) and HR-A (High Energy Visible plus InfraRed-A)
Step 4: Twenty4 High Potency Retinol Night Serum
Price: R510 (30ml)
Shop here: https://twenty4skin.co.za/product/twenty-4-night-serum/
Retinol continues to be regarded as one of the most researched ingredients in skincare, and for good reason.
The Twenty4 High Potency Retinol Night Serum is designed to support cell turnover, collagen production and skin renewal.
As someone who already uses active ingredients regularly, I found the texture surprisingly elegant. It absorbed well without leaving an oily residue and layered easily with a barrier-supporting moisturiser.
For anyone new to retinol, gradual introduction is key. Dr Jonck recommends allowing at least three months of consistent use before judging results, which aligns with what most dermatologists and aesthetic practitioners advise.
The focus here isn’t on an overnight transformation. It’s steady, long-term skin health.

How I used the range
The routine follows a simple order:
- Cleanse with the Glycolic Acid Face Wash.
- Apply the Day Serum in the morning or the Retinol Serum at night.
- Use a moisturiser or barrier cream if needed.
- Finish with SPF 50 every morning.
What I appreciated most was the simplicity. This four-step approach felt realistic and sustainable.
A good way to test the range first
For anyone curious about the products but hesitant to commit immediately, Twenty4 Skin offers a sample pack called the Your Proof Pack™.

The pack contains generous trial sizes, allowing users to experience the textures, formulations and compatibility with their skin before purchasing the full-sized products.
Final thoughts
What stood out most about Twenty4 Skin wasn’t a single miracle ingredient or dramatic marketing claim.
Instead, it was the thoughtful simplicity of the range.
The products are designed around ingredients with established clinical credibility, delivered through a routine that feels manageable for busy people who want healthy skin.
And in skincare, consistency often beats complexity.
