About the doctor
Doctor Ridwan Mia is one of the leading Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in Sandton, Johannesburg. He currently runs private practices at the Netcare Sunninghill Hospital, Sandton Mediclinic and Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg. In addition to aesthetic surgery, Dr Mia has a keen interest in hand surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery and the management of burn injuries.
Dr Mia matriculated at the Marist Brothers’ Sacred Heart College, and then graduated as a doctor from the University of Witwatersrand in 1999. Dr Mia Specialised in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand and holds a fellowship with the College of Plastic Surgeons of South Africa.
He is a member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa. He is a previous winner of the best research paper at the congress of plastic surgeons for research done on collagen and wound healing, as well as a prize winner at the Burt Myburg surgical research forum at Wits University.
Dr Mia was a consultant at Wits University medical school, teaching plastic surgery before moving to private practice at the Mediclinic Sandton and Sunninghill Hospitals.
He is a trustee on the burns charity Children of Fire and an active member of the Smile foundation which operates on young children with facial and hand deformities. Dr Mia is also well known for his charitable and philanthropic work and is a patron of the World Memon Organisation, a social and community charity, in addition to being the brand ambassador of Project Distinction, a school learner incentive programme.
He is inspired and motivated by his parents who he sees as close friends with much wisdom to share.
Dr Mia was awarded the National Order of the Baobab in April 2013 by the President of South Africa after he made world headlines for a ground breaking procedure done on a young child where skin was cloned to cover her extensive burn wounds.
He regularly delivers lectures and talks to corporate, social and career guidance groups, including schools and universities regarding life experience, motivation, social and health issues. He has much experience in advising, coordinating and judging of cultural, beauty and fashion related events. Dr Mia has recently been recruited to join the Champion South Africa movement that is seen as an enlightening and motivating force for fellow South Africans to harness their strengths for an improved and more cohesive society.

Practice Manager for Dr Mia’s surgery and is responsible for the front of house and day to day running of the practice. Leverne plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the practice runs smoothly, that the patients experience is pleasant while simultaneously overseeing the safety of all patients.
Nurse Caroline
With an intense love and passion for healing, Caroline works for a private practice running a wound care clinic in the Johannesburg region treating both hospitalised and home based patients. Specialising in post-operative wounds (eg. Lower leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, and burns) as well as advanced wound services (eg. KCI VAC dressings).
