Embracing an Active Lifestyle
Living an active lifestyle didn’t happen overnight for me. When I was 23, I experienced a pulmonary embolism—a blood clot in the lung—as a side effect of birth control pills. Fortunately, due to a life-saving sequence of events, it was detected and treated in time. This event marked the beginning of my journey and education towards improving my fitness, diet, and overall lifestyle. It has taken a great deal of motivation and discipline over the years, but the benefits have been immense. I believe there is freedom in discipline, allowing me to be present, grateful, and appreciative of my body’s capabilities.
Managing Lymphedema
At 37, just five days before giving birth, lymphedema developed in my right foot and ankle. Lymphedema is persistent swelling that isn’t relieved by elevating the leg. Nearly two years down the line, it has required me to wear medical-grade compression garments 24/7 to control the swelling and maintain the size of my limb. This condition has further motivated my interest in therapies and treatments that support my health and well-being.
Discovering Body Rolling
I recently visited the Wellness Lab at Moove Gym in Melrose Arch, a collaboration between Cryo by Coco and Lueur Aesthetics.
Lueur Aesthetics offers a range of body treatments, and I decided to try body rolling—a treatment I had never experienced before.
Body rolling involves using a machine that rolls in a specific direction with an infrared light that enhances the treatment outcomes. The process involves a routine of movements starting from your feet, up the calves and legs, moving onto your abdomen, back, and finally the arms.
The treatment takes about 45 minutes and aims to reduce cellulite, aid muscle recovery, enhance skin texture, improve blood circulation, and provide lymphatic drainage, among other benefits.

My Body Rolling Experience
Given my active routine of training 4 to 5 times a week, I thought body rolling would be an excellent recovery session and potentially help with my lymphedema symptoms. The treatment felt like a deep tissue massage, with the added benefit of controlling the pressure by adjusting how much you lean into the machine.
After my morning workout, I went straight to my appointment. Certain positions were tough to maintain, and they advised taking a break halfway through and staying hydrated. I was sweating at one point but felt the tension in my muscles easing as I moved through the movements—pure bliss.
Post-treatment, I felt incredible. I ensured that I drank plenty of water to help my body eliminate toxins. Although I had a mild headache that afternoon, I slept well, and the next day, my muscles felt tender, similar to the feeling after a good physiotherapy session or deep tissue massage.

Benefits of Body Rolling
Body rolling offers numerous benefits, particularly for myofascial release, which helps to realign the body and improve posture, reducing pain and preventing future injuries. Other benefits include:
- Improved flexibility
- Faster recovery periods for athletes
- Prevention of injuries
- Reduced pain
- Enhanced blood circulation
- Stress and anxiety relief
Conclusion: A Worthwhile Addition to Wellness
Overall, I loved the body rolling treatment. It’s like foam rolling but significantly more effective. I felt amazing immediately after the treatment and believe it would be best suited for a series of sessions rather than a one-off experience. I will definitely be going back, as it’s a wonderful addition to my wellness routine.
