Dermal fillers are classed as medical devices, also known as soft tissue fillers. They consist of a gel formulation which can be injected into the dermis and sub cutis to restore lost volume and effectively smooth out lines and wrinkles. The dermal fillers represent highly effective, non-surgical solutions to provide facial contouring and address the signs of ageing. There are many fillers to choose from, with over 100 different types marketed in Europe today. However, all fillers are not the same, and consumers considering dermal filler treatments need to ensure that the product to be used is well tested and developed with scientific and clinical evidence to support safety and efficacy.
DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF DERMAL FILLERS
+ Non-permanent: hyaluronic acid, such as Emervel®
+ Semi-permanent: calcium hydroxylapatatite (CaHA) particles; poly-l-lactic acid
+ Permanent: e.g. solid microspheres PMMA, gel polymer comprising alkyl-imide
GALDERMA DERMAL FILLERS: EMERVEL
Emervel is a non- permanent hyaluronic acid dermal filler. It offers the broadest range of gel textures to lift and smooth away lines and restore volume. The hyaluronic acid gel in Emervel fillers are designed to resemble the body’s own hyaluronic acid.
Some of the Emervel fillers contain integrated pain relief, lidocaine, to provide treatment comfort. When treating areas which are particularly sensitive, for example around the mouth and the lips, many practitioners will offer an anaesthetic cream to provide additional numbing and added comfort.
Emervel is designed to work within the different layers of the skin to restore facial volume, contour and smooth out wrinkles. It provides effective solutions and natural looking treatment results for a variety of skin needs:
+ Smoothing away wrinkles and pronounced lines, including around the eyes and mouth
+ Lifting up deep lines and folds
+ Defining and restoring volume to cheeks and chin
+ Lip enhancement
+ Shaping and contouring the face, including smoothing the tear trough hollows

EMERVEL RANGE OF GELS
As for all injection treatments using hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, side effects may occur in association with treatment. These side effects are usually mild to moderate, and include transient reactions such as redness, pain, swelling, bruising and/or bumps at the injection sites.
