Dermatology is a speciality area of medicine dealing with both the medical and surgical aspects of the skin, nails, hair and its associated diseases.
The Dermatological Society of South Africa aims to promote the science and practice of dermatology in South Africa through education and mentoring and plays an important role in the requirements for future dermatological education for both undergraduates and graduates.
A dermatologist is a medically qualified doctor who has then decided to spend several years training specifically in dermatology. In South Africa, the training to become a fully-qualified specialist in dermatology is agreed nationally to ensure that wherever you practice in the country, the standard of dermatological care will be the same.
A Unique and Combined Dermatology Congress in South Africa 2018…
The 71st Annual Congress of the Dermatology Society of South Africa will be held in conjunction with the 2nd African Society of Dermatology and Venereology (ASDV) congress from the 30th August – 2nd September 2018 at the Durban ICC.
The ASDV 2018 is the first African Dermatology congress to be held in South Africa and promises to be an exciting one with parallel sessions catering for dermatologists in academia, the private and public sectors.
For the first time in South Africa, we will be sharing the latest trends and research in dermatology with colleagues from Africa and beyond.
We have interest and support from colleagues in the USA, UK and Europe. The mandate of the combined meeting is to advance the specialty of dermatology in Africa, promote the highest standards of clinical practice, disease control programs, collaborative research and influence policy development in the African region.
Delegates from Africa and the rest of the world are excited to attend this meeting, which will be held on the Durban’s Golden mile, a melting pot of cultures, on the east coast of South Africa.
A number of workshops on vitiligo, dermatopathology, ethnic skin and hair disorders will add an African flavour to the meeting. Practical treatments and updates of skin diseases relevant in daily practice will be highlighted: infectious diseases, community dermatology, paediatric dermatology, dermatological surgery, eczema, skin cancers and aesthetics.
