Using Pain-Free Transdermal Delivery Method of Human Growth Factors and Plant Stem Cells
*Sponsored Post*
Hair loss is one of those unfortunate phenomena of life that may be experienced by a significant number of men and women of all ages. Multiple factors like genetic predisposition, autoimmune disorders, use of chronic medication, stress, hormones, diet and general health may contribute to thinning hair. Nevertheless, medical science keeps searching for topical products and treatments that could assist in stimulating hair regrowth.
Based on previous research data we would like to discuss the influence of the treatment cocktail containing human growth factors (Aesthet Recovery Serum Sanitatem) and plant stem cells (DNA Epinew Stem Cell Elixir) combined with transdermal delivery using electroporation.
The insulin – like Growth Factor – 1 (IGF-1) contained in Aesthet Recovery Serum Sanitatem represents a perfect mimic of human IGF-1 and is synthesised in plant cells by transient human gene transfer. This laboratory method produces high yields of human IGF-1 protein that is subsequently purified¹. Based on the published studies, the stimulating effect of IGF-1 on hair growth is likely to involve the following pathways: IGF-1 is suggested to play a role in regulating cellular proliferation and differentiation during the development of the hair follicle; IGF-1 regulates hair-cycle dependant expression of some anti-apoptotic proteins in the follicles, which may contribute to the anti-apoptotic role of IGF-1 in hair follicles; and lastly, IGF-1 increases blood flow, which may increase follicular metabolism².
Amongst other active ingredients contained in the Aesthet Recovery Serum Sanitatem are: a peptide that corresponds to the active signalling part of TGF-ß (Transforming Growth Factor ß), plant extracts from Centella Asiatica, Gorgonian Extract® from Pseudopterogoria Elisabethe (sea whip), Sodium and Zinc salts of L-PCA (LPyrrolidone Carboxylic acid), and nanoparticles containing vitamins A, C and E. Collectively, these active ingredients provide increased wound healing, collagen synthesis, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, moisturising and soothing properties, which are also very valuable when the serum is used for micro needling of the scalp.
DNA Epinew Stem Cell Elixir is a unique skin repairing serum containing cultivated stem cell extracts from the Argan tree, Comfrey roots and the aerial parts of Onopordum Acanthium. The widespread use of plant stem cells in cosmeceutical products is due to their ability to boost cell proliferation of human epidermal and dermal stem cells and thus promote regeneration of the skin; they also have anti-inflammatory properties and are strong antioxidants.
These properties of plant stem cells have been shown to increase the lifespan of the hair follicle so that the hair can remain longer in the anagen phase of the hair cycle. They may also support the healthy condition of the epidermal stem cells in the dermal papilla at the base of hair follicle².
The treatment cocktail containing both serums described above can be successfully used to stimulate hair regrowth in combination with micro needling with stamps, needling pens, etc. It can also be administered via a needle free, painless electroporation method. (Figure 1). Electroporation is a non-invasive alternative to the traditional needle-based techniques. Electroporation involves the creation of transient aqueous pathways across the lipid bilayer of the epidermal cell membranes. This can be achieved by applying very short duration (e.g. millisecond) high voltage (e.g. 100V) pulses to the surface of the skin. The electrical field that is formed increases the skin permeability by orders of magnitude and allows any added macromolecules to penetrate to the depth of 0.8 – 1.1 mm into the dermis. The opening of bilipid microchannels in the skin is a temporary process and within a maximum of 20 minutes following electroporation these microchannels close and cell membranes reverse to their normal condition³.
Overall, our preliminary studies have shown that the combined effect of human growth factors and plant stem cell extractions on stimulation of hair growth is promising.
CONCLUSIONS
Traditional treatments for hair restoration usually recommended a course of several treatments in order to achieve the desired results. However, the cost of most hair restoration products on the market and the pain associated with injections or micro needling of the scalp are often prohibitive to completing a course of treatment. The use of less expensive, high-quality products like Aesthet Recovery Serum Sanitatem and DNA Epinew Stem Cell Elixir (ESSEL, RSA) combined with cost-effective transdermal delivery using electroporation helps to overcome both issues mentioned above. Thus, the ESSEL serums described in this article, used together with electroporation for the treatment of the scalp are considered a novel, pain-free, non-invasive and more affordable alternative for treating thinning hair.
