A firm believer in the power of hydrolysed collagen, Paola Chellew provides her personal experience with Collagen Café’s Advanced Collagen Liquid in sachet form.
After quite a few years of collagen supplements flooding the healthcare market, many consumers are already “in the know” when it comes to taking collagen to restore strength and elasticity to the skin – let alone all the added benefits of lessening joint pain, as well as having a healthy head of hair and enviable nails.
If you’re new to the party, then you can read a previous article in which I interviewed three aesthetic doctors to get their take on the subject.
If you are yet to be convinced, then you could use yourself as a test trial – at least, that’s what I did five years ago, as the excruciating pain in my wrists was the trigger to see if all the hype was true or false. And happily, by the third month of taking hydrolysed collagen regularly, the pain diminished and eventually became a thing of the past.
Now I’m a creature of habit, and I’ve stuck to the powder form that is sugar-free, doesn’t have a taste or smell, and dissolves instantly in my morning coffee. Works for me.
But when I attended the Annual Aesthetic Medicine Congress of South Africa (AMCSA), I was drawn to an exhibitor’s stand like a bee to honey, with both the energetic orange hues and the brand name sparking delight in me. Meet Collagen Café!
More than meets the eye
Gorgeous packaging aside, I saw that this particular product came in liquid form, which is better assimilated by the body. Remember that collagen is a protein, and the richest sources of collagen are beef, fish, chicken, and pork. When we talk about hydrolysed collagen, this means it’s been broken down into smaller collagen peptides, which are easily absorbed by the body.
Quality meets convenience
Collagen Café’s Advanced Collagen Liquid comes from Brazilian grass-fed cattle (Type 1 and 3) and it’s ethically produced, free from added sugar, and Halaal certified. It also contains some goodies we really benefit from in our diets, such as vitamin C, magnesium, turmeric, vitamins B3, B6, B1 and B12, folic acid, as well as biotin – all of which I find quite handy to have in my shot of collagen. Oh yes, that’s the next step in the progression of my collagen journey; I absolutely love my new way of taking collagen: the sachet shot!
You can choose from a 500 ml bottle of Advanced Collagen Liquid, which comes with a handy measuring cap, or a box of 28 sachets that are incredibly convenient, as you get a precise daily dose of 20 ml, which hits that golden mark of 10 000 mg.
It’s perfect if you’re on the go or travelling, ensuring you get your potent daily dose of hydrolysed collagen.
Worth the shot
In terms of taste, I find it quite tart but pleasant, chased down with a glass of water. But depending on your taste buds, you can add it to a smoothie, berries and yoghurt, or oats. A month on, and I’m hooked!
It’s also well-priced, so if you are looking for one to try, I wholeheartedly recommend Collagen Café… provided you ditch the ciggies, slap on your sunscreen, and give sugar a miss. If my experience is anything to go by, plump skin, as well as improved movement and muscle strength, await!
