Collagen supplements have been a staple in my routine for years. In fact, our journalist, Paola Chellew, delved deep into this topic in her article, “Does Collagen Supplementation Actually Work? Aesthetic Doctors Share Their Views”, where she interviewed three aesthetic doctors to get their professional opinions. The general takeaway? Evidence shows that hydrolysed collagen supplementation can help to support and strengthen the health of the skin, nails, hair, joints, and muscles, but there are a few caveats, so be sure to read the full article.
Why I started taking RocQ Joint & Mobility Collagen
Last year, I cracked a rib in a freak fall. If you’ve ever had even the slightest rib injury, you’ll know the pain is next level. There’s nothing you can do for it – no cast, no brace – just a lot of waiting (and wincing every time you cough, sneeze, or roll over in bed). To make matters worse, I couldn’t exercise (which is like meditation to me), couldn’t go for a proper walk, and washing my hair became a half-done Olympic event.
I’ve taken various types of collagen over the years, mostly for skin, hair, and nails, and I’ve noticed some benefits in terms of muscle recovery and joint health. So, two weeks into my rib injury, I came across and decided to try RocQ’s Joint & Mobility Collagen to see if it could help.

Did it work?
After taking precautions, tips, and guidance from my physio, such as resting and breathing exercises, there was a shift.
By week six, I was back in the gym at 90% of my usual capacity. By week eight, it was as if nothing had happened. My joints, muscles, and bones felt stronger – and not in a placebo-effect way.
Beyond the recovery benefits, I also noticed that my skin, hair, and nails looked better (always a bonus), and my body just felt… mechanically smoother. Not in a “my knee pain disappeared overnight” way, but in a “my joints don’t creak like an old wooden floor anymore” kind of way. It also complemented my aesthetic treatments and skincare routine beautifully.
I was so impressed that I got more and continued taking it for weeks and months after my recovery – not because I needed to heal from an injury, but because I liked how my body felt on it.
What’s inside?
RocQ’s Joint & Mobility Collagen contains FORTIGEL®, a patented bioactive collagen peptide developed by GELITA (a leading company in collagen research). This specific type of collagen is clinically studied for joint health and works by stimulating cartilage regeneration. Unlike generic collagen powders, FORTIGEL® is designed to target joint cartilage directly, making it particularly useful for people dealing with joint stiffness, sports injuries, or wear and tear from exercise. And can also assist with the improvement of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.
A few key things about FORTIGEL®:
✔ It’s hydrolysed, meaning it’s broken down into smaller peptides for better absorption.
✔ Studies suggest it stimulates chondrocytes (the cells responsible for maintaining cartilage).
✔ It’s made from high-quality bovine collagen peptides sourced from sustainable and traceable suppliers.
Other key features of RocQ Collagen
- Type I & III collagen: Supports skin, hair, nails, and joint health.
- Non-GMO: Free from genetically modified organisms.
- Fat-free and carb-free: Suitable for various dietary preferences.
- Halaal-certified: Meets halaal dietary requirements.
- Sugar-free: Contains no added sugars.
- Grass-fed: Sourced from ethically raised, grass-fed bovine collagen.
- Tasteless: Dissolves easily into drinks, smoothies, porridge, etc., without altering flavour.
The instructions recommend adding just one tablespoon, but it may be best to avoid mixing any collagen powder into boiling hot drinks, as high temperatures may affect its quality (guilty of doing this in the past!). These days, I simply stir a tablespoon into a small glass of water— it dissolves perfectly and has no taste, making it an effortless habit to stick to.

Final thoughts
Would I recommend it? Yes. It’s a well-priced, high-quality collagen supplement with an ingredient that actually has some solid science behind it. While collagen isn’t a magic cure for joint pain or injuries, I do believe this specific formulation played a role in my recovery – and I felt great while taking it.
If you’re looking for a collagen that’s more targeted towards joint and mobility support, this one is definitely worth considering.
