Treatments for Skin Lesions and Veins
Cryotherapy for Skin Lesions
CryoPen® is a state of the art treatment at Aesthetica Skin centre that uses extreme cold, or cryotherapy, to painlessly and safely destroy unwanted, benign and superficial lesions on the skin’s surface, such as warts, skin tags, verrucae, milia, and cherry angiomas.
CryoPen® therapy is a medical procedure that involves applying nitrous oxide gas ejected under high pressure on to the skin. The gas is freezing, which helps to freeze and destroy any benign lesions. During the application, the tip of the CryoPen® reaches -79°C. This is to create a thermal shock at the region where the gas is pointed by causing a rapid drop in temperatures.
The temperature drop affects crystallising the targeted cells’ fluid contents, turning them into ice shards, resulting in skin lesions’ destruction. The membrane surrounding the treated cells is ruptured and destroyed. The penetration of the cold is approximately 1mm per 5 seconds of treatment, so a 2mm sized lesion would take 10 seconds of nitrous oxide gas to treat.

Plasmatek™ Wireless for Skin Lesions
Fusion plasma technology can effectively remove all types of moles, skin tags, warts, and verrucas. The voltaic arc dermabrasion technique (atmospheric plasma) applied at Aesthetica Skin Centre is considered to successfully remove lesions, especially relatively superficial ones, and small lesions located on the face or body.
Our technology uses a fusion plasma device by applying the principle of ionised gases in the air to get a small electrical arc similar to a flash of tiny lightning. This micro lightning will cause a very targeted and localised ablation of a very thin skin tissue layer. The effect of the micro lightening is the ablation of the top layers of the skin.
The unsightly and unwanted skin lesions such as moles, skin tags or warts can be removed quickly and easily using this advanced cosmetic procedure based on a technique using micro lightning frequency.
The method works whereby a fine probe can cauterise the blood supply, which gives the blemish its life source. Moles, skin tags and warts respond exceptionally well to this procedure, again with 100% success. This treatment has cut down the cost of many procedures that were before invasive and expensive.

Sclerotherapy
Varicose veins are the blue or purplish enlarged veins you typically see bulging out of a person’s leg, most often on the back of the calve area or on the inside of the legs. If varicose veins are severe, don’t ignore treatment, as they can rupture or form ulcers on the skin, which require immediate attention.
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat varicose veins. The procedure at Aesthetica Skin Centre is designed to improve the appearance of varicose veins. During the sclerotherapy process, Dr Bianca Cowan injects a solution directly into the affected vein.
The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together. In particular, the veins are injected with a sclerosant solution that damages the vein’s internal lining and causes blood clotting within the vein.
In time, your own body will then destroy the vein, and it will disappear. The solution generally used for this procedure is called sodium tetradecyl sulphate (STD) and is available in different concentrations depending on the vein’s size being treated.

Vascular Thermo Coagulation – Spider™
Spider veins get their name from the web of red or blue veins that often start to spread across your legs as you age. Most cutaneous spider veins are abnormalities of the horizontal capillary loops. Spider leg veins are composed of a feeder vessel and ectatic venous sprouts in the reticular dermis. Their depth is between 180 µm and 1 mm in the skin. Patients with higher age and chronic venous insufficiency are at greater risk.
Hormonal factors and occupation play a role in the development of spider veins. There seems to be a decisive genetic factor since the research suggests that 90% of patients have a positive family history of spider veins. These veins are usually in areas behind the knee, but they can appear anywhere on the body. Spider veins typically don’t cause medical problems although most people choose to treat them for medical or cosmetic reasons.
At Aesthetica Skin Centre, we use a thermocoagulation procedure, a relatively new technology with advantages such as immediate disappearance of veins, no allergic indications, and no pigmentation. Also, the procedure has applicability to all skin types.
