AAMSSA (The Aesthetic and Anti-Ageing Society of South Africa) has regularly been informed that members are aware of businesses (or individuals) operating in areas “offering” injecting/administering scheduled medicine/substances without the required qualifications.
AAMSSA says:
“As health care practitioners registered with the HPCSA, we have an obligation to report any unprofessional, illegal or unethical conduct. This could include laying a criminal complaint.
The society decided to create a mechanism which would allow you to lodge an initial complaint with us. The business in dispute will be offered the opportunity to evaluate their operation “against” the regulations governing injection/administration of schedule medication. The essence of the regulations / acts is that one need to be a registered medical practitioner (with the Health Professions Council of SA) to administer scheduled medicines/injections of any nature. The society will request “proof” of this from the business concerned.
The AAMSSA office (george@medsoc.co.za) need to receive your complaint in writing (e-mail) with as much “proof” as possible of the infringement (flyers/newspaper ads, emails, photos etc.) including contact details and names of the business (and business partners / operators). Without this information we cannot lodge effective communication with them. This will not be a quick or magic solution but a process we need to embark on to ensure that standards remain high in aesthetic medicine.”
