I have mentioned before that my favourite aesthetic treatment is skin needling with the Dermapen 4 device – this is done by a registered doctor and its benefits are significant. The texture, overall appearance and quality of my skin have improved over time because of the collagen and elastin boost created by the microneedling.
I know that many of you cringe at the thought of multiple needles puncturing your skin, but let me hastily assure you that the whole procedure is quite painless, as a numbing cream prevents any pain whatsoever and it takes next to no time. Waxing is worse, believe me!
In the past, the downside was that the skin took a while to heal and went through a few stages of scaliness; but with the new Dermapen 4 device, healing is quick and there are practically no side effects, apart from your skin looking a bit sunburnt for a few hours after the treatment (in my personal experience).
One of the benefits of microneedling is that thousands of little channels are opened up and this creates a wonderful opportunity for the doctor to introduce some beneficial ingredients to the skin, knowing that they will easily be absorbed. And here I cannot stress more the importance of selecting an approved doctor who works in a sterile environment – because the skin barrier is now open and vulnerable and the correct products have to be used on the skin.

The treatment
So recently, my Doctor, Dr Debbie Norval, massaged the booster (2mls) into my skin including under the eye and neck, once she had completed the microneedling procedure. She used the Dermapen device with a sodalite massage head – it’s a tiny blue crystal ball that vibrates gently and boosts circulation whilst assisting in the absorption of the topical skin booster. Sodalite is a rich royal blue gemstone known for its ability to stimulate the absorption of fluids, promote lymphatic drainage and reduce inflammation. It’s really soothing and I felt an immediate sense of reduction of heat. Afterwards, my skin felt firm and taut.
The formula
The formula of the skin booster is unique: it contains RHA (Resilient Hyaluronic acid), a cocktail of amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and Methylglucoside Phosphate which is responsible for increasing the synthesis of collagen and elastin production. This is why the skin gains elasticity and density.
In terms of the difference I felt in comparison to the previous microneedling treatments I’ve had – there was a definite sense of my skin feeling more hydrated, as well as having the tightening effect. This is great if you have more mature skin like mine. In the next few days, my skin looked normal – I had no dryness or flakiness, in fact, my skin looked radiant. A week later and I noticed a difference in tone and luminosity.
