Enhancing natural beauty – which ensures an individual’s unique characteristics are retained – is the ultimate aesthetic goal. In embracing this philosophy, a groundbreaking, locally available *treatment (distributed in SA by Tasosol) is set to change the game. Dr Yvette Lamberts reports…

Ageing is a natural and unfortunately inevitable process, showing up as an unwelcome guest with lax, dull, and dehydrated skin. But what if this inevitable progression could somehow be stopped in its tracks?
An international treatment modality currently available in South Africa promises to halt the signs of ageing, while arguably turning back the hands of time. Launched globally in January 2016 and now available in over 60 countries, this game-changing non-surgical skincare intervention contains one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market.
HA exists naturally in the body yet decreases as we age. As a powerful ‘water-holding’ molecule that can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water within skin cells, HA excels at keeping skin plump and hydrated.
The main goal of this treatment is to ‘cure’ wrinkles rather than simply fill them – boosting and hydrating skin, while simultaneously remodelling ageing and sagging tissue through fibroblast stimulation.
Underpinned by its uniqueness
With exceptional purity due to a unique and patented manufacturing process (which does not involve the use of chemical cross-linking agents to bind the chains of HAs), this revolutionary technology has made it possible to combine 32 mg of low molecular weight HA and 32 mg of high molecular weight HA in a thermally stabilised gel.
By stimulating four different types of collagen and elastin, the skin is tightened and lifted, and the brightness, smoothness and hydration of the skin are improved.
What’s more, this unique product intervenes in the physiological process of ageing tissue, where it alters the elastic fibres in the dermal skin layers and collagen to repair tissue scarring due to acne, as well as reduced volume due to compromised adipose tissue.
Safe, smart treatment
To maximise the benefits of the treatment, a safe, effective, and minimally invasive technique has been developed and implemented for the treatment of skin laxity. The gel is absorbed within a 2 cm radius of its injection site, so only 10 injection points are needed for a successful non-surgical facial procedure. As a result, the treatment is less painful, with a lower risk of bruising, compared to multiple puncturing techniques associated with traditional skin booster treatments.
After the product is injected, it disperses beneath the skin, without the need for massage or the risk of lumps or nodules. The full treatment consists of two sessions, a month apart. A further session may be recommended after approximately six months to prolong the effect and maintain the youthful appearance of your skin.
The procedure can be used on its own or in conjunction with other fillers, laser treatments or botulinum toxin as a complementary, rather than competitive, treatment. It is suitable for men and women and provides skin benefits for patients of all ages.
A word from your doctor
However, with all the above mentioned, please bear in mind that non-surgical, minimally invasive skin treatments should only be performed after a consultation with your medical aesthetic doctor. In the hands of a professional, these treatments are considered safe, with all aspects of your health and beauty being considered to create, maintain, and enhance your own natural beauty.
Take home message
In a nutshell, this new ‘moisture in a syringe’ does not only have the capability to boost and hydrate the skin, but it also effectively remodels ageing and sagging tissue (with the most common areas of treatment being the face and neck). Moreover, it can successfully treat skin laxity on the décolletage, hands, arms, knees, and abdominal area.
