The days of needle trauma are finally over. A new device allows penetration and drug delivery via an ultra-fine stream of liquid – which is seven times smaller than the smallest needle.
Is your fear of needles standing between you and a better looking you? Fear no more, modern technology has come to the rescue with needle-free jet injectors.
“In our beauty clinic, we use the needle-free jet injectors with great success,” says Dr Martin Jacobson from Pretoria.
“After examining the new technology, I just knew this is the way forward. The positive reaction of our patients made the decision to only use the needle-free jet injectors in our beauty treatments so much easier.”
The needle-free jet injector was invented by Medical International Technologies (MIT), a Canadian company.
The technology combines speed, accurate dosage and volume adjustability to produce a highly efficient method of drug delivery. The low-pressure system is virtually pain free and is safer, simpler and more cost effective than the standard needle and syringe. This is according to Mr Karim Menassa, founder, president & CEO of the company.
How it works
In an article published last year in the ONdrugDelivery Magazine, it states: “When administering medication, the initial pressure is high to create an opening in the skin, while the actual injection of the substance is done at low pressure.
As a result, the injectable is delivered accurately and precisely into the targeted area at the desired depth of tissue – and is virtually pain free. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure as the fluid passes through the skin.
The injected medication disperses in a mist or spray as it enters the subcutaneous tissue. The rate of absorption increases as the surface area to which the medication is exposed, increases. The small penetration area (approximately a quarter of the size of a 33G needle) results in reduced trauma to the site, due to the limited tissue contact.
Medication injected by needle and syringe is deposited in a bolus or pool of fluid, which displaces the surrounding tissue. It is then absorbed from the periphery to the centre of the bolus by the surrounding tissue. Due to the limited tissue contact, absorption is generally slower than with the jet injection.
Benefits
Other benefits of the needle-free jet injection system are reduced stress associated with traditional needle-based delivery, and eliminating the risk associated with infection from accidental needle-pricks.
The needle-free jet injection system is widely used for drug delivery, anaesthesia, vaccination, aesthetic procedures like mesotherapy, the removal of spider & varicose veins, wrinkle injections and much more.
Use of needle-free injections in the aesthetic field
“We use the needle-free jet injection system in our clinic mostly for mesotherapy in cellulite elimination, body sculpting (spot weight reduction) and skin rejuvenation,” says Dr Jacobson.
“A special cocktail of vitamins, minerals and medications is injected directly into the layer of fat located just beneath the skin. The mixture injected is different for each area being treated. Once injected, this cocktail theoretically ‘melts’ away the fat by dissolving the content of fat cells (lipolysis), down to the point where they can be flushed out through the bowels and kidneys.
In the case of treating cellulite, the injection serves to weaken the connective bands of tissue which pin fat down, reducing dimpling and resulting in a cleaner appearance.
The products are homeopathic injectable solutions with no side-effects from the products themselves, and they also have FDA approval in the USA.
“Because of the large area treated with mesotherapy, the discomfort and bruising is quite extensive when using a conventional needle and syringe – but is drastically diminished with the needle-free system.
When using a needle and syringe, the amount of pricks are more and closer together. But because the surface area with the needle-free jet system is larger, you need less “injections” for the same results,” says Dr Jacobson.
The Needle-less Injector is distributed in South Africa by Needleless To Say, Needle Free Clinic and Training Centre (Deksny Trading).
