This article by Dr Bianca Cowan discusses innovative NAHYCO® technology for treating body skin laxity. It explains how these bio-remodelling injectables work to stimulate collagen and elastin production, reducing signs of ageing like sagging skin. The article provides an overview of this new non-invasive aesthetic treatment option for areas like the arms, thighs, and abdomen.
The practice of enhancing one’s physical appearance has a rich history dating back to the early Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Chinese civilisations. Although time treats us all with ever-growing prejudice, the aesthetic industry constantly develops innovative and cutting-edge products in order to assist in slowing down and countering the ageing process.
The latest group of products to be introduced into the industry are the bio-remodeling injectables. These skin rejuvenation treatments have been shown to facilitate the skin’s own repair functions through the body’s production of new collagen and elastin and reducing skin laxity, all while hydrating and increasing the skin tone. The popularity among physicians for using these therapies is not only to reduce the signs of aging of the face and neck areas but also the décolletage, lower neck, arms, knees and hands.
While dermal fillers affect the desired results by adding volume to the skin, bio-remodelers perform their magic by remodelling the skin from the inside.
How it Works
NAHYCO® Technology combines innovation and complete safety with the production of stable hybrid hyaluronic acid cooperative complexes (HCC) formed through a patented thermal process by combining high and low molecular weight ultrapure hyaluronic acid. This bio-remodeling injectable is absorbed by the body’s skin evenly, which in turn affects the rejuvenation of the substructures of the skin over longer periods of time. Skin laxity, dullness and crepiness are significantly reduced in areas that have until now been less responsive to similar treatments.
How Women Live With Body Skin
Laxity According to market research carried out by IBSA (developers of NAHYCO® technology), most of the women surveyed said skin laxity on the body is not just a beauty blemish or a small defect… but can also be a real “problem” with considerable repercussions in everyday life.
First, there is a sense of inadequacy in their clothes. Women feel ‘obligated’ to change their attire, abandoning garments indicative of feminine seduction, such as tight-fitting and low-cut garments, in favour of more covering garments that can hide critical areas. Second, more extremely, women may feel forced to change their habits, for example, to avoid sunbathing in public.
However, IBSA believes “EVERYONE IS A MASTERPIECE”. Marketing and communication manager Maria Bisogni commented, “We are very proud of this project and the very important recognition received. From the beginning, the goal has been to put women and their essence at the core, with the hope of sparking a desire to rediscover and enhance one’s uniqueness. This is what makes each of us a true masterpiece.”
What is Laxity?
By laxity, we mean the progressive loss of tone of the superficial tissues. It is a phenomenon related to the depletion of collagen and the drastic decrease in tissue firmness, determined by the loosening of elastic fibres. The reasons are generally multiple: heavy weight loss, unbalanced diets, the physiological ageing of tissue, genetic predisposition, and pregnancies. The most common areas treated for skin laxity are the inner arms, abdomen, knees, inner thighs, and buttocks.
Why is Laxity Among the Most Complex Blemishes to Treat?
Regenerating tissue, whether to counteract ageing or repair damage from a bad lifestyle, is a complex process. It is not simply a matter of removing something that is in excess, as is the case with the elimination of an accumulation of fat. But rather, it activates the body to self-regenerate and stimulate the production of new collagen fibres (neocollagenesis) and new elastic fibres. This requires innovative approaches and new technological tools. NAHYCO® is such a technology.
Photographic Body Laxity Scale
A study carried out by Kantar Health* on behalf of IBSA by a panel of distinguished doctors and their patients has shown that the face area accounts for 80% of the time devoted to aesthetic medical treatments, with only the remaining 20% taken up by the body. Interviews clearly show that patients see body treatments with a certain “detachment”, fueled by uncertainty regarding potential solutions. Knowledge is often fragmented, inconsistent and inaccurate, and it is not always clear who to contact in order to help find answers.
IBSA enhances the beauty of each person as a whole, as set out in its manifesto. It strives to be the benchmark in the world of aesthetic medicine for the treatment of skin laxity and bio-remodeling. IBSA manufactures the ONLY proven injectable Hyaluronic Acid on the market specifically designed for the treatment of body skin laxity and is particularly recommended for the brachial area and the abdomen.
In addition, IBSA has designed and validated a dedicated “photographic laxity scale” for the inner arms. This is a useful tool for doctor-patient dialogue, which will facilitate assessing the level of laxity and, therefore, the type of outcome to be expected. In addition to surgery, which is still the best treatment in case of severe tissue impairment, the use of a NAHYCO® technology product is rapidly becoming increasingly popular due to their unquestionable advantages over more invasive solutions.
Conclusion
The aesthetic industry has come a long way in offering safe, innovative and cutting-edge treatment modalities that aim to reduce the natural signs of ageing. NAHYCO® technology is now available in the South African market to not only treat facial skin laxity but also for specific body indications. It is important to consult with a medical practitioner before considering any aesthetic treatment.
